THRUST 1 – Ultra-low loss middle infrared glasses

Reduction of intrinsic losses in infrared glasses, their derived optical fibres and components, by developing new methods for synthesizing these materials.

Synthesis of high-purity As-S, As-Se, Ge-As-Se glasses (500g+)

The well-established Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) processes that allow for the purification of silica to the theoretical limit cannot be transposed to exotic glasses (such as chalcogenides).Using alternative purification methods under development, we believe that we could ultimately reduce propagation losses significantly below 10 dB/km.

IMPACT

Development of a system to produce ultrapure chalcogenide glass in large quantity, which would be a breakthrough for the development of several application fields.Contact us for more details
