Femtosecond Laser Interaction and Nano-Structuring (FELINS)
Development of 2D- and 3D-structured optical materials through non-ablative photochemical modifications, from bulk glasses to optical fibres. Optimal material compositions (i.e. doped glasses, composites incorporating metallic or dielectric nanoparticles, etc.) for femtosecond-laser structuring will be developed and characterized. Collaboration with Thierry Cardinal (ICMCB – U. Bordeaux, France) and Réal Vallée (COPL) made possible through a grant from Conseil Régional d'Aquitaine (France), Volet Recherche
Impact
Ability to generate micro- /nano-structures from composite materials and ultimately develop novel optical devices for sensors, data storage and telecommunications.
